Barrington Tops National Park is located inland in northern NSW, just 3.5 hours from the JUCY branch in Sydney. It's a great place to stop en route to Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, when the heat and bustle of the coast has gotten a bit much and you're keen to get off the grid and relax in tranquil surroundings with nothing but mountains around you.
We stayed at The Steps Campground - a stunning little spot nestled right in the park, with great facilities and a river running alongside the campground. There's lots of camping spaces for those with tents or campervans, as well as the lovely Riverview Cottage, which sleeps 11. Easy walks, overnight hikes, great picnic, fishing and camping spots await.
The park is a bushwalker’s paradise, with an excellent walking track network that includes short and easy walks to more difficult overnight hikes. For those visiting for the day, there are lots of picnic and barbecue areas to enjoy, cycling trails to be explored and views from the park’s lookouts that need to be seen to be believed. The awesome and helpful park rangers and campground owners will help you out with any activities you want to plan - we spent a great morning mountain biking and floating down the river on inflatables thanks to their help.
We highly recommend a visit to Barrington Tops - it's the perfect spot to get away from it all!
