Author: Jason Hall

Whenever you sign a rental agreement you agree to follow the rules of the road where ever you go. This means that if you are renting a vehicle in a foreign country, where you are unaware of the laws that you must learn them prior to getting behind the wheel of the car. Taking the time to learn the rules will help you in keeping with your rental agreement and could help you avoid taking on more liability for that vehicle in the long run.The following are some of the rules that you need to be sure and remember when taking an Aussie holiday.-Don't beep your horn. In general the Aussie's don't honk their horn except to warn another driver of their presence. Angry horn honking is unacceptable in this region of the world. -Seatbelts are required by all passengers and drivers in the Queensland. So be sure to buckle up. -If you are traveling on the freeway, you need to stay to the left, unless you are passing someone and that is the only reason you should be in the right lane. Signs should indicate this rule as well. -Slow drivers need to stay to left, so if you are just getting used to driving around Australia then be sure to stay in the furthest most left lane to avoid problems.-Residential areas the speed limit is usually 60km per hour or 35mph, more recently this has been reduced to 50 km per hour in many areas. Keep an eye out for the posted speed limit. On country roads and major highways you will find the posted speed limit is usually about 100km-110km per hour or about 62mph to 68 mph. Oh, and don't forget that the speedometer on vehicles in Australia will be in Kilometers as well.-You have to drive on the left. This sounds weird and may feel weird but you will get used to it easily and just follow others. -NO drinking and driving. Be safe and take a cab if you have been drinking.
